Local man
caught in net sting
A local man faces multiple felony charges in Prince William County after police
say he solicited an officer who was posing as a 14-year-old girl on the
Internet.
The Virginia State Police Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force built its
case against Scotty Allen Moyers, 22, of Broadway through numerous online chats
over a two-month period.
“He contacted me and began to solicit me for sexual acts,” said Detective Howard
M. Perry of the task force. “In his mind, he was talking to a 14-year-old girl.”
Moyers is charged with 20 felonies, including multiple counts of attempted
indecent liberties, use of a communications system to solicit a minor and
transmission of child pornography, according to court records. The charges stem
from multiple online chats, Perry said.
Some of the charges are punishable by up to five years, so if convicted on
multiple counts, Moyers could face a lengthy prison term, Perry said.
He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing Aug. 17 in Prince William County
General District Court.
